    BioChem™️ 10% Ascorbic Acid

Ascorbic acid is the pure, biologically active form of Vitamin C.
It’s a water-soluble antioxidant naturally found in fruits and vegetables (especially citrus, berries, and peppers).
In skincare, it’s known for brightening, collagen stimulation, and protection against oxidative damage.

    Benefits

    1. Powerful Antioxidant

      • Neutralizes free radicals caused by UV light and pollution.

    2. Boosts Collagen Production

      • Supports synthesis of collagen and elastin, improving skin firmness.

    3. Brightens Skin

      • Reduces hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and post-acne marks.

    4. Evens Skin Tone

      • Helps with dullness and overall radiance.

    5. Enhances Sunscreen Effectiveness

      • Works synergistically with SPF to reduce UV-induced skin damage.

    Uses

    • Typical concentration: 5–20% in serums or creams.

      • 10–15% is common for daily use.

    • Best applied:

      • In the morning after cleansing and before sunscreen.

    • Often combined with:

      • Vitamin E and ferulic acid to improve stability and effectiveness.

    FDA Cautions & Safety

    • FDA Status:

      • Ascorbic acid in cosmetics is not regulated as a drug unless therapeutic claims are made.

      • It is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) for oral consumption and considered safe topically in cosmetic concentrations.

    • Stability Concerns:

      • Pure ascorbic acid is highly unstable—it oxidizes quickly when exposed to air, light, or heat, turning yellow/brown (which means it’s losing potency).

      • FDA notes that ingredient degradation can reduce product effectiveness.

    • Possible Side Effects:

      • Mild irritation, redness, or tingling—especially with higher concentrations or sensitive skin.

    • Cautions:

      • Patch test first.

      • Avoid mixing with certain ingredients (like high-concentration niacinamide) unless formulation is designed for it.
