    BioChem™️ 100% Glycerin

    • Glycerin (also called glycerol) is a clear, odorless, viscous liquid derived from animal fats or plant oils, or synthetically produced.

    • Chemically, it is a simple polyol compound (C₃H₈O₃) that is soluble in water and has humectant (moisture-attracting) properties.

    • “100% glycerin” means it contains no diluents or additives—pure glycerol.

    Benefits

    1. Skin hydration – Attracts and retains moisture in the skin, improving softness and elasticity.

    2. Barrier protection – Helps strengthen the skin’s natural protective barrier.

    3. Wound healing – May support tissue repair and soothe irritation in minor skin injuries.

    4. Non-toxic & biodegradable – Safe for topical use and environmentally friendly.

    5. Versatility – Can be used in cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals.

    FDA Considerations

    • Food Use – Classified as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the U.S. FDA when used in accordance with good manufacturing practices.

    • Cosmetic Use – FDA does not require pre-approval for glycerin in cosmetics, but it must be listed on the ingredient label.

    • Pharmaceutical Use – In drug products, glycerin must meet USP (United States Pharmacopeia) purity standards.

    • Contamination Risks – The FDA has issued safety alerts in the past regarding glycerin contaminated with diethylene glycol (DEG), which is toxic; manufacturers must test raw materials to ensure safety.

    • Labeling – Products must accurately state glycerin content and avoid misleading purity claims.
