ELAHERE: Cancer Treatment and Access in Canada
ELAHERE (mirvetuximab soravtansine) is a targeted therapy for certain patients with folate receptor alpha (FRα)-positive, platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. In the MIRASOL clinical trial, it improved overall survival compared with standard chemotherapy, offering an important treatment option for eligible patients. However, it is not a cure, and its benefits are not universal. In Canada, regulatory approval has not automatically translated into public funding. In May 2026, national pricing negotiations ended without an agreement, highlighting the challenge of balancing access to innovative cancer medicines with their cost to publicly funded healthcare. The debate continues: how can Canada make promising treatments accessible to patients while ensuring responsible use of public resources? URIBHO will continue to follow developments in the evidence, funding negotiations and patient access as this story evolves.
